Graduated as a composer from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in 2006, Casper Hernández Cordes is centering his artistic research on interactions between human beings and their surroundings.

Under the headline “Building Sound Collectives”, he has channeled this artistic research through various formats, including electroacoustic improvisations, happenings, workshops, and interactive installations, in Denmark, and other European countries, as well as Colombia.

In 2018, after graduating as an Educational Anthropologist, Cordes moved from Copenhagen to a small town in the countryside, Sorø, giving way to the urge to come closer to Nature. Paradoxically, at this time, his artistic research took what you might consider a turn towards Culture.

Spending more time in nature, immersed in its movements and energies, and filtering these through reading of philosophy (ie. Spinoza, Bachelard), anthropology (ie. Descola) and poetry (ie. Inger Christensen), Cordes started using words as a medium of expression.

Gradually his focus turned to exploring these elements through music. Recently, Cordes has worked with the idea of the score as a kind of mathematical grid, through which human – and non-human emotion could find their expression.

He considers the score as a grid through which the emotions and movements in nature, in humans, and in their interactions could be processed, studied, elaborated, merged. In this process, Cordes uses the piano as a tool for improvisation, channeling movements and energies, from nature, from humans and their interactions.

These improvisations are used as a basis for compositions, that can take a variety of forms through the hands and life of a performer.
